Keynote by Dr. Mia Jovanova on Digital Biomarker Development in Metabolic Health, 7 March 2024

A multi-modal approach to digital biomarker development in metabolic health

Thursday, 7 March 2024,  4.15 pm CET, Zoom

About Mia Jovanova

Dr. Mia Jovanova is the Scientific Director of the CSS Health Lab and Core Director of Digital Biomarkers in Metabolic Health at the Centre for Digital Health Interventions. This fall, she will be a lecturer at CAS ETH in Digital Health, teaching wearable biomarker design and validation. Dr. Jovanova is a visiting scholar at the SaxeLab at MIT, where she is studying the legitimacy of public health institutions, such as the FDA, at regulating new digital health devices. She obtained her PhD at the University of Pennsylvania and her bachelor’s at Cornell University.

About the Lecture

Metabolic disorders, such as type-2 diabetes, are rising rapidly and pose unsustainable healthcare costs. Digital technologies, like smartphones and wearables, increasingly make it possible to track individuals outside the lab, continuously, and in near real time. At the CSS Health Lab, we integrate wearable and smartphone data to better understand metabolic indices—for example, blood glucose fluctuations and pre-diabetes risk in daily life— to develop more effective lifestyle interventions and to make prevention more actionable and scalable.
