Keynote by Dr. Benjamin Dodsworth on his Entrepreneurial Journey at PIPRA, 11 March 2024
Monday, 11 March 2024, 4.15 pm CET
Dr. Benjamin Dodsworth, Chief Scientific Officer and Chief Technology Officer at PIPRA AG. Postoperative delirium (POD) is the most common and devastating complication in surgeries of older patients. POD occurs in 20% of surgical patients aged 60+ and leads to adverse outcomes such as double the risk of nursing home admission, costs of 1-2 B Euros to health insurers in Germany alone, and 38% of the affected end up suffering long-term cognitive decline and dementia. There are no treatments available once symptoms arise. Instead, the focus is on prevention. Many highly effective prophylactic treatments have been developed but are too costly to deploy for every patient. PIPRA is a start-up developing an AI-based pre-operative risk prediction tool highlighting patients at risk before surgery. This patient-centric approach increases patient value by improving health outcomes and decreasing costs over the full cycle of care.
In this lecture, Dr. Dodsworth will discuss his entrepreneurial journey with PIPRA and will report on lessons learned regarding business models in digital health.
