About the Lecture

Behaviour change science has become an exciting and increasingly important area of research and action over the past decades. Interventions aimed at changing behaviour are key to address many challenges that societies face such as the climate emergency or the widespread prevalence of non-communicable diseases. Changing people’s behaviour can, however, be terribly difficult. But help is at hand. The Behaviour Change Wheel (BCW) is a powerful intervention development framework that provides a set of interrelated tools and principles to guide decision-making and facilitate systematic development of behavioural interventions. By setting out a method for understanding behaviour, and clearly linking this understanding to techniques known to change behaviour, the BCW provides researchers, practitioners, and policy-makers with a rigorous approach for developing interventions that are most likely to be effective. This lecture will introduce the BCW methodology and demonstrate how it can be applied to a range of practical problems.
