George Boateng has been shortlisted for the 2021 Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation!

PhD Candidate and Doctoral Researcher George Boateng has been shortlisted by The Royal Academy of Engineering in the UK for the 2021 Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation!

The Royal Academy of Engineering has selected sixteen African entrepreneurs who stand out with community-transforming innovations with the aim of supporting them to accelerate their businesses and shape the African continent. George was shortlisted for his non-profit organisation SuaCode.ai, which uses a smartphone-application with artificial intelligence to teach coding to young people remotely. The vision of SuaCode is to democratize coding education in Africa.

“The benefits of shortlist selection include eight months of comprehensive and tailored business training, bespoke engineering mentoring, media and communications training, funding and access to the Academy’s network of high-profile, experienced engineers and business experts in the UK and across Africa (Royal Academy of Engineering).”

Shortlisted candidates will also compete for the £25,000 Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation.

The Royal Academy of Engineering prides itself in identifying engineering entrepreneurs with significant potential by focusing on the socio-economic impact of their businesses and on the potential to address challenges identified in their own communities. Past alumni have tackled a wide range of issues, including agricultural resilience, transport, and healthcare.

Here at the Centre for Digital Health Interventions we are very proud of George who has been balancing completing a PhD with building up the non-profit organisation SuaCode.ai, together with his co-founders and larger team. We are wishing George all the best for taking part in the generous mentoring and business acceleration programme and for competing for the 2021 Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation!
