CAS ETH in Digital Health 2024-2025 – Module 1: Introduction to Digital Health
Today, we face the challenge of chronic conditions. Personal coaching approaches are neither scalable nor financially sustainable. The question arises, therefore, to which degree Digital Health Technologies (DHTs) are appropriate to address this challenge.
The first module of our CAS ETH in Digital Health provides an overview of the global epidemic of NCDs. DHTs are introduced as one approach of offering better support and treatment to people affected by NCDs. How can DHTs be leveraged in healthcare and private capacity? To this end, the most important business models for DHTs are analyzed. This module kicks off our CAS with a two-day workshop at the beautiful Lake Constance. In addition to getting to know each other and learning key concepts and examples of DHTs via various keynotes (e.g., with examples from digital female health and digital metabolic health projects), participants will work in groups and use generative artificial intelligence (AI), especially large language models (LLMs), to develop a highly personalized, evidence-based podcast based on guidelines from the World Health Organization, and YouTube material from the most successful social media influencers and data from wearables. Moreover, live sessions and online lessons will be used to discuss the topics of this introductory module. Complementary learning material (e.g., video and audio clips), multiple-choice questions, and individual exercises are provided online to deepen the knowledge acquired in the input sessions.
After this module, participants will be able to:
- understand the relevance of DHTs for the prevention and management of non-communicable diseases (NCDs)
- understand key characteristics of DHTs (e.g., states of vulnerability and receptivity, digital biomarkers, health care chatbots, and voice assistants)
- understand digital health business models.
