About the Lecture
The Covid-19 pandemic has forcefully transformed the delivery of healthcare. Digital modes of delivery have become central to protecting patients and health workers. Even before the pandemic, digital health had been identified as one of the key enablers of healthcare improvement and for achieving the quadruple aim for the delivery of high value care. Unfortunately, many studies show that both healthcare professionals and medical students lack competencies for seizing the potential of digital health, with the majority not having received training. Thus, medical schools worldwide have been accelerating the introduction of digital health courses into their curricula. It is, however, unclear what competencies these digital health courses should focus on or what content, structure, mode of delivery or assessment they should entail. To address this gap, we completed scoping reviews on digital health competencies frameworks and training programs. I will present the findings of these evidence syntheses and provide recommendations for the development of new digital health courses.
