About Baki Kocaballi

Baki Kocaballi is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Technology Sydney and an internationally recognised researcher specialising in conversational agents and generative AI. His research sits at the intersection of technology design, digital health, and education, with a focus on developing collaborative human-AI interaction models that reduce fixation, support co-creativity and responsible engagement, and preserve human agency. His work has received several academic awards and recognitions, and his research has been published in leading international venues.

About the Lecture

Generative AI is driving seismic shifts in how we design interactive technologies. In this talk, I will trace four emerging practices at the frontier: generative user interfaces that recompose on the fly from intent and contextual constraints; deliberate frictions to reduce uncritical adoption and over-reliance; simulation with synthetic personas as provisional proxies for early-stage explorations; and co-creation workflows that support responsible human-AI partnership. Drawing from these emerging practices, I will outline their key implications for digital health including enhancing personalisation, supporting user engagement, and improving the quality of care and safety.
