Keynote by Prof. Kowatsch on the Economic Value of AI at the HSG Healthcare Management Retreat, 13 Sep 2025

The University of St.Gallen (HSG), known for its top-ranking business education accredited by EQUIS, AACSB, and AMBA, is launching an innovative Healthcare Management Retreat on September 12-13, 2025. Initiated by the Henri B. Meier Foundation and HSG’s Executive School, this retreat addresses pressing healthcare management challenges through cost-awareness and advanced leadership skills, ensuring optimal use of resources in healthcare organizations.
Participants will benefit from engaging with renowned healthcare leaders and discussing practical cases that illustrate how prudent financial management and strategic leadership significantly improve economic performance, enhance care quality, and facilitate workforce growth. Amidst growing financial pressures in German and Swiss healthcare, exacerbated by high expenditure and structural inefficiencies, the retreat emphasizes strategic hospital reform initiatives. Topics include optimizing service delivery, resource allocation, and the ongoing need for strong leadership and effective cost management to sustainably transform healthcare systems.
As part of this retreat, Prof. Tobias Kowatsch will give a keynote on the Economics of Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare. He will provide examples of using AI in digital health technologies such as digital diagnostics and how successful AI can be reimbursed today.
