Odile Giger visiting Harvard Business School to explore incentive systems for T2D management

We wish Odile Giger all the best for her research several-month visit at the Harvard Business School. Here are some updates directly from Odile: Live from Harvard: Advancing Diabetes Type 2 Care

Greetings from Harvard Business School, where I’m diving deep into research on how to make digital diabetes management tools more accessible and effective for general practitioners (GPs) in Switzerland. Hosted by Prof. Susanna Gallani, I’m exploring how the right incentive systems and how we can drive the adoption of innovative healthcare solutions.

My focus? The SGED Score, a powerful diabetes management tool developed by the Swiss Society of Endocrinology and Diabetology. Despite its potential to improve patient outcomes, its uptake has been sluggish due to administrative hurdles and unclear incentives. That’s where our work comes in! Through qualitative research, we are investigating how a digital versionof the score could be implemented effectively and what would truly motivate GPs to integrate it into their daily practice.

Why does this matter? Because improving diabetes management isn’t just about new tools—it’s about ensuring they actually get used. Our research aims to deliver practical recommendations that help bridge the gap between innovation and real-world application, making digital health solutions more attractive and feasible for primary care providers.

Beyond academia, Boston has been an incredible place to live and work. Biking to campus keeps me energized (and my blood sugar levels low!), while the Local Running Club makes sure I get my dose of fresh air with crisp morning runs along the Charles River. As a member of the Harvard Mountaineering Club, I also take advantage of the nearby White Mountains for weekend ice climbing. Balancing research with outdoor adventures makes this experience both professionally and personally enriching.

See you soon in Switzerland!

Odile Giger
