A warm welcome to new team member Gianluca Piol

Gianluca Piol is joining the Chair for Digital Health Interventions (Prof. Dr. Tobias Kowatsch) at the University of Zurich’s Institute for Implementation Science in Health Care as a intern on the PRECIOUS project.

Gianluca is a medical student pursuing his master’s studies at the University of Zurich and the University of St. Gallen, with a strong interest in the intersection of medicine, science, and technology. Alongside his clinical training at his alma mater to become a clinician, he has gained experience in computer science and engineering through courses at the ETH Zurich, Harvard University and the University of Chicago. Various research projects at the intersection of medicine, data analysis, biochemistry, medical physics, and computer science, taught him to connect medical topics with new technologies and develop modern solutions for clinical problems. As part of his master’s thesis, he participated in a phantom study on mammography and breast CT, using Monte Carlo simulations to calculate radiation dose and to subsequently compare the dose exposure.
He is motivated by combining clinical practice with innovation, aiming to better understand complex medical conditions and therapies and to contribute to the development of new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. Outside of his clinical and research activities, he enjoys outdoor sports, particularly cycling, trail running, as well as climbing and mountaineering
Welcome, Gianluca!
